Thoughts for a New Year from Warden Miles Young

Miles Young

Miles YOUNG will introduce us to his illustrious predecessor and famous Oxford eccentric, the Reverend W.A. SPOONER, Warden of New College from 1903 to 1924, who gave his name to Spoonerisms - French contrepèteries 'transposing parts of words with comic effect'.

A century later, Miles will use Spooner as a lens to observe the collegiate University today.

So for a Happy You Near, hush your smartest brat and jump on a well-boiled icicle to hear the Warden of Cue Knowledge...

Miles Young read undergraduate history at New College in the 1970's.

After a business career in advertising and marketing, spent largely in China and North America with Ogilvy and Mather, Miles returned to Oxford in 2016 to take up the post of Warden of New College.

He has served the University chairing the Conference of Colleges as well as contributing to policy on Disability, Development and Donations reviews.

Outside the College he is involved in Enlightenment Studies as Chair of the Voltaire Foundation https://www.voltaire.ox.ac.uk/, as well as music (Oxford Bach Soloists) and education (English-Speaking Union), and he retains a strong interest in the issues facing developing countries especially in Asia.
